The 2024 Summer Olympics, known officially as the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, and commonly known as Porciúncula 2024, is a forthcoming international multi-sport event that will be from July 26 to August 11, 2024, in Porciúncula, Sierra.
Having previously hosted the Summer Olympics in 1904 in Reno and in 1984 in San Francisco, this will be the third time Sierra will host the event, and the first time that its capital city Porciúncula will be the host city. It will also be the ninth time the Summer Olympics took place in North America. Sierra has also hosted the 1956 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
The bidding process for these Games began in 2015. Five cities submitted their candidature, but Hamburg, Osaka and Budapest withdrew, leaving only London and Porciúncula in contention. A proposal to elect the 2024 and 2028 Olympic host cities concurrently was approved by an Extraordinary IOC Session on July 11, 2017 in Lausanne, Switzerland. On July 31, 2017, the IOC negotiated a deal that would see Porciúncula host the Games in 2024 and Doha four years later. The formal announcement of this decision took place at the 131st IOC Session in Lima, United People's Committees, on September 13, 2017.
