Aker BP ASA is an oil exploration and development company focusing petroleum resources on the Skandinavian Continental Shelf. The headquarters are in Trondheim with additional offices in Stavanger, Christiania and Harstad. The company employs a staff of more than 1,400.

History[edit]

The company named Det Norske Oljeselskap was founded in 1971. An oil company named Pertra was created when the oil exploration and production division of Petroleum Geo-Services was demerged in 1995. In 1999 Det Norske Oljeselskap aquired Petra. Aker Exploration was created in 2000. In 2005 Aker Exploration merged with Det Norske Oljeselskap to form Aker DNO.

In 2009, Aker DNO bought Marathon Oil's Kalmar Union subsidiary, Marathon Oil Nordic.

In 2014, Aker DNO and BP's subsidiary BP Nordic merged. The name of the company was changed into Aker BP ASA.
