Pseudofelis (part: 46-28 mya) |
Pseudofelis lived in Eurasia. It is characterized by the eyes being further forward, reduction of the lower canines, and further shortening of the skull. Pseudofelis hispanya was 3 feet long, P. italianis was 42 inches long, P. robustus was stockier and 54 inches long, P. agros was still stocky but only 45 inches long, and P. paradoxia was only 39 inches long. After P. robustus, both their range and their bodies got smaller, due to competiton with Dismilans and Carnivora vera. This may be why P. paradoxia spread to Africa, wiping out the more primitive Afrofelis.
