Kardovijan wars, were a series of separate but related conflicts that unrolled in the Zocien peninsula ,that encompassed ethnic conflicts, ideological conflicts, independence movements, armed conflicts and interventions that took place in FRKR from 1971-1987.These conflicts lead to the break up of Kardovija and the creation of 6 independent nations and one city state under the supervision of the I.D.U.The active phase of the conflict has seized in November 8th 1987 with signing of the Kazevičija Memorandum, between the former Kardovijan republics,Free city of Zaprevete , Vityazshina and Małsovija.

During the later stages the conflict heightened the tensions between the major alliances as SRPR joined to protect Republic of Hudróz and uphold it's political influence in the area. Which put Shintoka(at the time the biggest supporter of the independence movements) in an uncomfortable position to diminish it's support to Zardovija and Dubelje as a direct war against SRPR was out of question for the Shintokian officials.

Background

The FRKR(Federal Rationalist Kardovijan Republic) was created in 1893 by the Shevchegovskiy Rationalist People's Republic after leading a successful streak of invasions and coups d’état into the nations of the Zocien peninsula, and creating a united federal rationalist government. As a result of the arbitrary creation of the borders many different ethnicities, religions and cultures were put under one flag, the most numerous ones being the Kardovs,Zardovs,Hudrs,Silboijan,Izumeji and Dubelji.

After Huj's passing away late 1967 the relations between the 4 Kardovijan republics started deteriorating and in 1968 a new leader came to power General Alexander Gradič, a more direct and authoritarian leader, bringing a wave of purges especially targeting Zardovijan and Silbojican politicians and public figures at first outside the party before moving into purging the ranks of the KRP(Kardovijan Rationalij Partije),and effectively by early 1970 the KRP was mostly consisting of Kardovians and Hudrs exclusively while Zardovs and Silbojians were almost completely excluded out of the political matters of the nation.

In august 1970 an assassination attempt failed against Alexander Gradič,pushing him towards more radical purges, public executions of political opponents and an introduction of national curfew of 10pm on weekdays, those measures how ever served to anger the populous of the republic. Adding to the existing problems of the general economic stagnation of the Zocien peninsula in the late 1960s-early 1970s and the two years of bad harvests conducted in Hudróz, which were greatly echoed as the new regime received embargos from the Financialist nations and due to their non-respect of human rights and authoritarianism.

Naming

The Karovijan Wars were alternatively referred to as:

  • Zocien Conflict
  • Kardovijan Succession wars
  • Kardovijan Civil Wars

Prelude

Mass protests around the FRKR(May 2nd-May 21st)

On may 2nd Protests first lead by Huj rationalists, erupted around major cities of the FRKR,demanding fair political division of powers, economic and agrarian reforms. At first the government tried breaking up the protests with the help of the Milicija but by may 15th it was certain that the protests won’t cease until different measures are taken, the ČTK(Čentralnij Televidineč Kardovija)were prohibited of broadcasting any coverage on the events and so were radio stations around the nation. On May 17th the Kardovijan national guard was mobilized to deal with the protests in a swift manner. Although at first cautiously, the national guard proceeded with the suppression of protests in some cases violently, notably in Gošća where 200 people died and 600 were wounded in 3 days. On may 21st the mass protests were first acknowledged by the party and the ČTK started broadcasting heavily censored material filmed since may 2nd.One day later the Izumijan independence protests concluded with the creation of the FIRKR.

Border clashes between UKR,POL and FRKR(May 19th-May 22nd)

On may 18th after the rumours of the Kardovijan government, unable to calm the protests and mobilizing the KNO. Resulted in a meeting of TBA(Vityazshina pres) and TBA(Małsovija president) to discuss the possibility of seizing back the lost lands during the 1930s.May 19th was the first recorded clash on the Małsovija-Kardovijan border where a returning Kardovijian citizen was prohibited exit and wounded by the members of the Małsovijan border guard. Many similar incidents followed in the following days on Vityazshinian, Małsovijan and Kardovijan border crossings committed by all three sides, on May 21st the crew of a Kardovijan B-65U shot a HE(high Explosive) shell, directly at a Małsovijan outpost after being provoked by a fake explosive thrown at the tank. The explosion on the outpost resulted in 6 casualties and 19 injuries amongst border guards and civilians. The Vityazshino-Kardovijan crossings had less action until the night of May 21st-22nd where a shoot-out between a Kardovijan border patrol and Vityazshinian border guards resulted in an allegedly false alarm communication to the Vityazshinian ministry of defence informing them of a presumed full scale Kardovijan invasion.

Anti-Kardovijan Coalition Invades Kardovija(May 22nd 1971)

On the morning of may 22nd 1971 Vityazshina and Małsovija mobilized their militaries and their armoured divisions crossed into Kardovija in a major armoured spearhead, the border checkpoints were overrun with the Vityazshinan and Małsovijan armoured and mechanised divisions that simply outnumbered and out equipped the Kardovijian border guards. By the end of may 22nd the front had advanced on average 30 km inland. The Kardovijian government began a full scale mobilization of the Kardovijan National Guard, greatly accelerated by the ongoing partial mobilisation to deal with protests and the quest roads of the weekend morning.General Vasilij Izemedič is credited with the swift reaction and great coordination with the FKAF which slowed the enemy substantially enough that the western Kardovijan defence did not collapse and received the reinforcement groups from the north, east and later KNO divisions that were supressing the mass protests around Kardovijan cities.During the day Kardovijan delegates to the I.D.U headquarters sent a plead, tied to the violation of the I.D.U agreements on peaceful diplomacy. The war was officially declared a day later

Conflicts

Izumijan Independance Movement (May 1971)

The first of the five major conflicts to happen Kardovija, At first the KNO tried intervening and holding on to the strategic placements like the airbases, border crossings, bridges and other vital infrastructure but the Izumijan people joined the nationwide protests with the blockades of major roadways. After a couple of skirmishes, and standoffs in the region the Central government negotiated with the Anton Salvabarovij the leader of the Izumijan Administrative region at the time, resulting in the creation of the Federal Izumijan Rationalist Kardovijan Republic(F.I.R.K.R).
