Preston Thomas Bolivar (born July 19, 1973) is a Sierran politician and Member of Parliament representing the 14th parliamentary district of the Gold Coast. From 2008 to 2016, Bolivar served as the Deputy Prime Minister under the premiership of Steven Hong as well as the deputy leader of the Democratic-Republican Party. Between August and December 2016, Preston served as acting Prime Minister following the Assassination of Steven Hong by dissident republican Dylan Coulter.
Born on July 19, 1973 in Grands Ballons, Bolivar grew up in a Reformed Jewish community and attended Grands Ballons Central High School before graduating in 1991 and attended Columbia University from 1992 to 1994 and later the University of Sierra from 1994 until his graduation in 1998. During the 2000 federal election, he ran on the Democratic-Republican ticket and won most of the vote in the 14th district, a seat he holds in the modern era. Preston would work with Steven Hong and served as Shadow Deputy Prime Minister as part of his shadow government and was a high-ranking member of Hong's opposition cabinet. Following the Democratic-Republican victory at the 2008 federal election, Bolivar was sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister and was very active in the position to the point where he's been called the most powerful deputy prime minister in Sierran political history. In August 2016, Steven Hong was assassinated by Dylan Coulter and Bolivar was wounded while they were visiting Plumas. Following Hong's assassination, Bolivar was made acting Prime Minister and oversaw a caretaker government until a new election could be held. During this turbulent period, Bolivar was the Democratic-Republican Party leader for the 2016 Sierran federal election which saw the Democratic-Republicans suffer a major defeat and Bolivar was succeeded by Daniel McComb of the Royalist Party by December of that year.
Following the election, Preston Bolivar continued as acting Leader of the Democratic-Republican Party and as the de-facto acting Leader of the Opposition stating that he would hold the position until a leadership election was held to replace him, one in which he would not participate in. In October 2017, the Democratic-Republicans held a party leadership election which saw Maggie Chan, MP from West San Jose of Santa Clara, emerge victorious. Afterwards he resigned as DRPS and Opposition leader, though continues to serve as an MP for the 14th district.
Early life and career
Preston Bolivar was born on July 19, 1973 in Grands Ballons, Gold Coast. He was born to a Reformed Jewish family where his mother was a nurse and his father was a mechanic as well as a part-time worker in the local community Reformed Jewish synagogue. During his youth, he was raised in a Reformed household, but became more secular by the time he had entered into high school. He attended Grand Ballons Central High School and graduated in 1991. Afterwards he would attend King Charles University from 1992 until 1994 when he transferred over to the University of Sierra, Irvine. During a summer internship, he visited the Congregationalist States and documented his times there in his diary the daily life of its citizens that he witnessed and had called it a humbling experience.
