Softball will be featured at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Istanbul for the first time since the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Six teams will qualify. The Anatolian Republic, as the host nation, automatically qualified. The winner of the 2018 Women's Softball World Championship qualifies for the Olympics. The remaining four spots will be allocated through three qualification tournaments: one spot for a Europe/Africa tournament, one spot for an Asia/Oceania tournament, and two spots for an Americas tournament.
