The country of Wittland (formally the Sylvarchy of Wittland) is an island nation located between the continents of Vesperia and Kai-Meridia. Its Capital is the city of Sīnor. The country is an Absolute federal Monarchy, in which all power rests within the Ricerei but is delegated to the various rulers of the Riz under them. The country is comprised of 19 different riz, federal unit that operate with a fairly large autonomy from the central government. As an island it does not share land borders with any other nations. However, it shares maritime borders with the nations of Vespia, Tersa, and Kaishuri.

The Wittish archipelago is regarded as one of the centers of the earliest development of human civilization. The Wittish nations is one of the oldest if not perhaps the oldest nation in the world, dating back to at least -3500 Ʋ with the first definitive signs of Wittish civilization being dated to -1500 Ʋ. The Wittish demonstrated advanced signs of irrigation, construction, and were master sea-farers. They developed highly advanced and incredible cities and structures the nature of which still remains a mystery to modern scientists and historians today. The Witts developed in the form of city states often warring with each other and developing their own cultural identities. Circa 500 Ʋ the Witts begin to colonize various lands surrounding with them reaching as far as the eastern Vespian islands and as far south as Southern Riden. Circa 2500 Ʋ the Vespian Empire invaded the Wittish islands in what is called the first great Vespian war. Which lasted for about 100 years until the Vespians were finally repulsed.

After the Vespian invasion, the Wittish city states remained in a state of strife with each other until the King of Sīnor Ikroj managed to unify the city states into one coalesced state. His son and Successor Gaeroz continued his military success. He was remembered as one of the most successful military leaders in history, extending his empire all the way too modern day Memu. He was crowned the first Ricoriz (King of All People) of the Wittish empire. He was later succeeded by his son Torik the Shrewd, a highly skilled diplomat whose reign brought 50 long years of peace and prosperity to the Wittish empire. His son Meyr was noted for starting a campaign against the Zhouic state that would engulf the Wittish empire. After his death his son Ikroj continued his father's effort in subjugating the Zhous to the west. However at the battle of the Mountains the Zhouic managed to rout the Wittish invaders and killed Ikroj in battle. With Ikroj not leaving a heir behind the empire collapsed into anarchy with various factions trying to install their own claimant to the throne. 10 years after the death of the last Ricoriz, the lands of Wittland collapsed into chaos for centuries to come with various warring petty kingdoms often trying and to some success unify the Chaotic Wittish isles.

During this period of Anarchy, Wittland would suffer greatly. Vespian raids would intensify tenfolds leading to entire villages and clans being carried off into slavery. Attempted invasions by the Tersans, Kai, and Assaians would further contribute to the chaos of the isles. During these periods of duress, Ricoriz would unify the isles or attempt too. Their reigns would be short and inglorious rarely lasting a generation with only two recorded Ricorez successfully passing their thrones to heirs, these being Þumr the Wise, and Kariz the Strong. However their heirs would often prove weak and unwise losing their thrones quickly and the isles devolving into chaos. Talir the Posthumous, Arjir the Unready, and Baldriz the ill-councilled where among these ignominious Kings during this period. This cycle of order and chaos would continue for nearly 5 centuries, reducing the once proud Wittland to ruins and empty fields. It would be centuries until Wittland reached a shadow of it's former glory.

However an enterprising young man who had lost his entire family to this cycle of destruction, would arise to finally bring an end to it according to traditional Wittish tales. This man would be Arjaz the Peace Bringer, first to hold that name. He would embark on a 15 year quest to unify the isles and bring peace to them. Of the Idrjūm Veymans, he came from the city of Jzorum, an once proud trading port now more of a city home to smugglers, prostitutes, pirates, and the ilk from foreign lands. With the dream to bring peace and prosperity back to the isle. He fought a long and ardrous war with men he had won through various adventures and political ploys, he managed to bring the isles under one ruler, choosing to style himself Ricerei (Ruler of the People) instead of Ricorez (Ruler of all People), proclaiming an edict barring all foreigners from entering the islands without explicit permission obtained ardrously through various levels of bureaucracy, and expelling many of the foreigners living within Wittland. In order to maintain peace he would often take hostages and wards from the major clans in order to keep them in line, and drawing upon a more centralized form of government. For about 300 hundred years, Wittland entered a period of extreme isolation very rarely ever receiving friendly outside contact.

History[edit | edit source]

Early History[edit | edit source]

The exact origin of the Witts are not known even to modern day historians. They possess no genetic link to any other racial group in the world, and no evidence exists for there to be a plausible explanation of a voyage. According to the oral and literature traditions of the Wittish people, they claim to have come from a land located north of Wittland and claimed to have followed the Queen Huthera across the sea to escape strife, famine, war, disease, and persecution in their homeland. According to the stories the lands of Wittland were inhabited by a race of people which the Wittish called the Vaitz (Wittish for stinky), who were described as being short and hairy with a certain puginid smell. The Wittish claim to have conquered the lands from these people and pushed them eastwards. Modern historians speculate that these may have been a Vespoid race which inhabited the Archipelago but were gradually driven extinct by the Witts. This has been supported by various archaeological findings within the Wittish Archipelagos which points to a vespoid species once inhabiting the islands but eventually going extinct themselves and dying out due to wars between the two races.

Modern archaeological finds have revealed a Bronze age civilization to have been located in Wittland by -5000 Ʋ with researchers uncovering various bronze tools such as swords, plows, and axes indicating an understanding of metallurgy by the Witts. They also found small villages made of stone close by the areas where the artifacts where the artifacts were found indicating some form of civilization had indeed risen in this time period. These inhabitants contained granaries, houses, small tombs, along with forms of jewelry within them indicating a stratified society had already arisen within the Wittish isles at this points. The earliest forms of writing found in Wittland were several stone tablets found on the island Tzavl which use a Cuneiform writing style and were carbon dated to -3000 Ʋ. Parts of the Tablets have been translated and it indicates it is a stock of kinds for various goods and items within it. These include items found specifically within the Korat indicating an early network of trade within the Wittish sea. The earliest known city of Wittland was Morkl a city with high stone walls that is dated back to at least -2200 Ʋ, it possessed a small palace along with a temple located at the very center of the city. The city seemed to revolve around the movements of the sun and moon indicating an advance understanding of astrology and the movement of the stars.

The First Vespian War[edit | edit source]

The Vespian Wars are traditionally divided into 3 distinct wars, the first Vespian, the Second, and the Third. The first Vespian invasion was not an invasion by Vespia itself but rather by Vespian colonists seeking to establish military outposts in the Wittish islands. The war began because of the aggressive behavior of Vespians towards the Wittish, which would generally include the enslaving, sodomizing, and destruction of Wittish cities. This resulted in a war between the Vespians and the Wittish, which is only described through Wittish legends most of which seem to be extreme over dramatizations. Some examples include Wittish magicians bringing never ending drought and madness over the Vespians. The Vespians analogues describe over 600,000 Vespians warriors invading the islands and nearly forcing the Islands into complete submission. However according to both tales a coalition of Wittish cities came together and began to launch several coordinated attacks against the Vespian invaders repulsing them mostly from the islands although evidence shows that there remained many settlements and it is believed that a tenative peace fell over the islands.

Golden Age of Wittish culture [edit | edit source]

The Golden age of Wittish culture is traditionally held to be the period between 1800 U and 2600 U. This period was characterized by a strong decentralization of the Wittish states into many different city states and clan states. However in spite of this the era was mostly peaceful and prosperous for Witts with culture flowering in a grandness unseen anywhere else on Sabel, and development of complex government, philosophies, religion, writing, drama, and according to various legends magic. During this period it is believed the Sverdæns who worshiped the Wittish war god as the one true manifestation of Jeoloel migrated from Wittland to the Sverdæn islands, establishing the Sverdæn nations with the language and culture of the Witts influencing the states. Most notably they showed a great trade between the various Proto Cultures of the Ancient World. Quite astoundingly, artifacts from the lands of Ankuria have been found in ancient sites in Wittland. Many of the cities and kingdoms were established during this period. It is commonly believed that the worship of Jeoloel began during this age and his status as the supreme deity of the Witt's pantheon was formulated.

Wittish Empire[edit | edit source]

The Wittish empire was an empire founded in response to the Vespian invasion, the empire united under the Veyman, Gaeroz the Great. He managed to form the largest empire the world had ever seen up to that point, managing for the first time in human history to actually conquer land from the Vespians and sack 4 coastal Vespian cities. He also continued with conquering parts of Vespia, Tersa, Riden, Assai, and the Zhousphere, along with Memu, and all of Kaishuri. The empire lasted for some 150 years, and had 4 rulers. It collapsed following the attempted invasion of the Han lands under the Ricerei Tjarzi, he possessed the ambition to conquer all the lands past the mountains of the day and become the greatest ruler the world had ever known. Unfortunately he was not a military genius like his fore bearer had been and the Zhou emperors enlisted the help of the Kai people sending them into battle against the Witts. The witts lost battle after battle, until the penultimate battle at Tjarzi Dread where the Witt army was struck the lethal blow with the last Ricerei being killed in battle. This resulted in infighting between the various Veymans of the empire trying to claim the throne, and generals trying to establish kingdoms of their own. Eventually the empire fractured into many warring states and would not unite for some time.

Religion[edit | edit source]

The Wittish Religion is not exactly what could be defined as religion, but rather a collection of Beliefs and pantheons of gods. The belief system is classified as polytheistic having a plethora of gods, but also has a supreme Deity Jeoloel who is often referred to as the one true god of Wittland, with all other gods being merely extensions of him. The religion itself has many sects with varying views and beliefs, such as Truanism which is a monotheistic dualistic and manichean religion. However central beliefs of the religion include the belief in distinguishing yourself from others, and the view that life itself is paradoxical with good and evil both simultaneously existing intertwined as one. As such it has no true concept of ´Sin´ with the role of such being fulfilled by what are called acts of destruction.

People [edit | edit source]

The Witts are a people of White skin, along with unusual Silver to platinum hair, and blue eyes. Regarded as incredibly beautiful to the point of being inhuman by the rest of the world, their genetics can be found across the world due to Witts being kidnapped for use as sex slaves, concubines, and etc.  Their looks were so incredible that most of the world thought they were naught but myths, except for the Bersanians, Vespians, and to a lesser extent the Kaijins who they kept contact with. The exact origins of the Witts are an enigma to modern day scientists, as there is no genetic link from them to other whites, and the exact place of origin of the Witts is completely unknown. Due to the fact that Wittish traits are considered dominant against nearly every other ethnic trait (with the exception of Vespians) it is unknown why this occurs, as the traits are not particularly advantageous and are not original traits of Humanity like Brown Eyes, and dark skin. Some theorize that the Witts are actually Albino Vespians that colonized the islands, but genetic and archaeological evidence refutes this, another theory is that due to the prejudice and suspicion those with darker skin and brown eyes along with Dark hair face in Wittish society that these traits completely died out, but it also does not explain why the Wittish traits are dominant.
